January 18, 2006

Matthew Hickney was born on July 16th 1981 in Torrance California.  Growing up on a steady diet of movies and comic books, he has always been passionate about storytelling.

During high school he was involved in theatre and acted in several student produced shows.  In college, he took it upon himself to unleash his cinematic obsessions and direct his own short film entitled Ssik.

Soon afterward he attended screenwriting classes at the Seattle Film Institute. Completing the program with his first screenplay, Metroid (based off the popular video game).

In late 2002 he made the move to Los Angeles to attend Directing and Editing classes at The Los Angeles Film School.  Quickly learning his craft, Matthew directed two short films, and served as Editor to over 15 Graduate, and non-graduate films.  Including the LAFS Industry Screening 2003 honorable mention 111.

Upon graduating Matthew found work as a freelance editor, helping to cut the feature length documentary Adventures into Digital Comics for Top Two Three Films.

He also served as creative and technical editor on the indie film Critical Condition featuring Tamra Braun and Bruno Kirby.

In late 2004 Matthew returned to his hometown of Seattle and formed Choke Productions; the banner under which all his current projects are in development.
